Sometimes
it seems in today’s world that
all car accessories are
standard. Custom parts are only
crazy things that nobody needs
and only the precious few who
can afford such extravagances
opt into buying. Many new car
accessories aren’t actually
custom parts, although it’s not
always clear that they’re custom
parts that you’re actually
paying extra for because they’re
putting these custom
part accessories on all cars
that they’re selling of that
make and model at that
particular dealership.
What Exactly Are You Paying For?
It seems odd that expensive options are not always options. For example, some cars are not available with a standard gear shift even though many people prefer a standard shift car and the standard shift is much cheaper than an automatic one, not to mention is more efficient on gas, which makes a big difference with today’s oil prices. This is a great example of where an expensive option is not always offered as an option available for a higher price; in a lot of cases, the only way to buy the car is to buy an automatic shift version of the car.
There is a very long list of other car accessories that were custom parts and now are standard. For instance, not everyone needs a CD player in their car; for some this car accessory is a custom part, at least, it should be one, according to this subset of the population. However, in a lot of cases it is a standard part, most cars come with a CD player, which is included in the price. What many people don’t realize is that they are actually paying for this CD player; it’s just that they’re not paying for it separately as a custom car accessory or part. Manufacturers have gotten smart and made small things like this standard issue, but raised the price, in doing so.
These standard parts and accessories make custom parts an idea of the past. It’s no longer necessary to take a look at what is standard on the vehicle you are looking into buying and then looking at the list of custom options and their equivalent prices. In most cases, it is absolutely not necessary because a lot of them are now accessories regularly found on new cars up for sale; the choice is gone, but the accessories are not.
